Aloha Citrus North folks, Yesterday at Garden Exchange a fig tree followed me home. It is about a foot tall, has a sturdy stem and a label of "Celeste". I haven't ever even eaten a fig that wasn't in a fig newton, don't quite know why I bought the tree but it just seemed like it wanted to grow in my yard. Now what do I do? How big does a Celeste fig tree get? Sun? Shade? Dry? Wet? Acid? Alkaline? What do Celeste figs look like and are they tasty? Guess this will teach me about impulse buying! A hui hou!

Celeste is among the most popular variety of figs in the US. It's very commonly mislabled at nurseries and by growers who name it Celeste because it just looks like one. Here's a photo of how the celeste normally looks like. ![]()

I had one of these in my back yard growing up, the tree must have been a hundred years old, it produced vast quantities of fruit that was super sweet and juicy! I used it for jams, compotes and baking. I wish that I still had acess to that tree! You are in for a treat when it fruits!
