Dole pineapple top

What does sunburn look like? Are you talking about the fruit or leaves?

Just on the leaves,my pineapple doesnt look like its even thinking about fruiting yet.
The sunburn is just a burnt yellowish color on the leaves that get too much sun to fast after being inside all winter.Ive also noticed it looks like dew or rain drops on the leaves burn sopts on them after the sun comes out like a magnifiying glass,only happens the first few weeks after i put it out if it gets to much sun to fast,by mid summer its growing strong and the old leaves die off anyway so its hard to tell anything was wrong at all by fall.

The reason I asked as my pineapple fruit has turned a bright yellow, but it has not changed size and is rather small like a Soft Ball. The leaves are all a nice deep green. I may repot it this fall into a 8 inch pot.

Oh well, I'm not getting any fruit this year. It appears that when it turned yellow it gave off that delicious pineapple smell that someone liked enough to take a bite out of it. I suspect the dog or a rabbit. I'll have to take precautions next season.

Hope you will get another fruit!I always thought the plant dies back after fruiting and you either have to plant the top from it or sometimes it grows suckers off the bottom.
How old was your plant before it started to get fruit?

I have no idea. I purchased it at a local Lowes store this summer. The nursery website in Florida that offered support was useless for help. I think I will take the fruit off this weekend and start the planting process of the top. The main plant has not died back yet. I need to re-pot it into a larger pot since there is no room in the pot for any type of off-shoot.

I was told those smaller pineapples from lowes,hope depot,etc..are an ornamental variety and thats as big as the fruits get.I wasnt even sure if they were edible,never looked into them too much.

Well, it was an experiment for me. It did smell like a regular pineapple once it turned yellow. I was able to harvest the top with no problem. Now to see if the mother plant will die back. There is a wide open space in the center now that the fruit stalk is gone. Where do you get your plants from? I remember a member here was selling Bromeliads, so I may see what he has in the fruiting variety.

Just got my tops from fruit we bought at the grocery store.

I was able to contact John/Jack, and he said that he is still selling/trading 100s of Bromeliads. None are pineapples. I think he is a member of bsi.org, so he may have other contacts.
