Default Loquat in containers

I'm in zone 6, Pa where I grow all kind of tropicals and sub tropicals in containers. I have 2 Loquat trees that have been grown from seeds. I waited 7 years and never flowered. last month I decided to keep these trees outside and not bring them into the greenhouse. I wanted to get rid of them, so the one november morning after a frost, I looked and both trees had flower buds.
The flowers have a beautiful aroma, reminds me of Almond extract. I pollinated the flowers with an artist brush. Can't wait for the fruit.

That's wonderful! Thanks for that tip (I'll have to try it) and for the photo. I could probably do a Google search but...any ideas about chilling period(s) and maximum low temp?

The maximum low temperature is 12 deg F but I don't think it will fruit in very cold areas. The tree will flower in November normally, and the flowers can tolerate temperatures as low as 27 degrees.
for more information check the CRFG site.

Hi Bass,
Great photo -- happy to see this tree finally start to earn it's keep. It took a guy like you with the know how to finally get it to show what it could do.
Thanks for sharing the results.

Lou,
I'll make sure I save you a couple fruit. I will keep my promise, I remember you asked me if you can try the fruit if it ever fruited.

Default I love it

I got about 30 fruit on my container grown Loquat. They taste wonderful, they're hard to compare with other fruit. I grew up eating this fruit and many other sub-tropicals. It's nice to have a greenhouse.
