| There are several Passion Plant (passiflora) cultivars that produce significant amounts of tasty fruit (as well as a beautiful bloom). This one is "Purple Possum", another good choice is McCain...both these cultivars (and more) are available from Logees. You can access their on-line catalog. Byron and Laurelynn Martin, the owners are wonderful 'plant people'. Another claim to fame is their lemon tree, planted by Grandfather over 100 years ago. The tree is growing in a greenhouse, located in Danielson, CT. Many celebrities have visted the tree. Last edited by Citrus Joe : 10-06-2007 at 10:18 AM. |

| Joe, When I was in Australia past January, I got to try their black passion fruit. It was widely sold at farmer markets, it's a very dark purple almost black. I'm not sure of the actual name, but it's very sweet. I ate it chilled, and it kinda tasted like passion fruit sorbet. I ordered the purple possum from Logees, but it didn't survive, because the plant was very small. I grew Maypop Passiflora incarnata, and it flowered and produced fruit in the same year, but it's a little sour, not as juicy as the tropical kind. |
