For those interested,
Gardeners and orchardists looking for a new challenge are invited to attend a grafting seminar and workshop at Landis Valley Museum, Lancaster, Pa. on Saturday, March 29. Steve Shambeda is scheduled to speak on apple growing, including the basics of bench grafting. Directly following the seminar, guests will receive hands-on instruction on grafting their own trees.
Attendees can bring bud-wood of their own (one-year old straight twigs as thick as a pencil), or choose from approximately one hundred twenty five Modern and Antique apple cultivars supplied by the workshop.
Grafting instructors will be available to give guidance and tips, as well as advice on continuing care and culture of backyard apples. Anyone planning on attending will need to bring a sharp pocket knife, utility knife or other suitable sharp knife. Fixed-blade and folding grafting knives will also be available for sale.
