I just found this group through a posting on NAFEX, it's just what I've been looking for.

I'm a native Californian, from a rural citrus and grape area, but now I live on the east end of Long Island, NY in zone 7, and am rebuilding a house on the Inner Banks of North Carolina, where we expect to move in the next few years. There I think we can grow some citrus in the zone 8a, especially along the south wall. Now the problem is having too much water, rather than not enough. The house has been elevated after being damaged by Hurricane Isabel, so my plan is to build raised beds along the new seven-foot foundation. I'm planning on kumquats, Meyer Lemon, and the sweetest orange I can find that will survive the cold and espalier.

I've been interested in growing warm weather plants further north than recommended ever since I moved to NY 20 years ago to take care of on estate. I've learned a lot about greenhouses, covering plants, burying them, heating them and otherwise protecting them. I love that challenge.

I hope to learn a few tricks about how to cope with wet feet, varieties, greenhouses, and a few things that I haven't considered yet.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome Truckie.
Will Meyer Lemon grow here in z8a?

Good luck with the house and beds!
