In viewing your last photos on UBC. I feel the soil mix is a bit heavy thats why it turns to a mud mix when watering. In starting new seeds it's better to use a seed starter mix which is clean and lighter allowing the water to flow more freely which makes it more simple. One can use potting soil for seed starting although I find it a bit harder to use. the lack airation and watering can lead to problems if not used with care.

Absolutely - if I had added sand or perlite, drainage wouldn't have been a problem and mud wouldn't have formed. Anyway. 4/6 came through. I carefully dug up seeds 5 and 6. seems they were buried pretty deep. one still had a shell and the tap root was quite long. The other didn't have a shell anymore, I simply moved it closer to the surface. (I know that generally this is frowned upon as it can disturb/shock/kill the seedling...I decided to do it in the name of experiment because there isn't a lot riding on this grow). Maybe I'll start a new thread in the forums soon.

Cancon, You will never get a 100% germination with growing citrus from seed. at least I never did. It's much better to soak fresh seeds overnight in fresh water, The seeds that float is not good use the sinkers and discard the floaters. Using a seed starter mix is more easy than using a potting mix.
