Default Slow grower.

I"ve had a couple of coffee plants for a few years now. And found them to be very very slow in growing. Is this normal? Or am I missing out on something.

Coffee demands optimum growing conditions and this includes careful control of temperatures and humidity. The temperature range for coffee is strictly from 59 to 75°F, and at temperatures near or above 77F all growth stops or becomes extremely slow to develop, and at temperatures above 86F the leaves are damaged. Although coffee is grown in tropical countries, it is cultivated at higher altitudes where the temperature are conducive to the plants requirements. High humidity, and protection from windy conditions, also greatly aids in plant growth. As the plant increases in size, it must be repotted into larger containers. Large trees in smaller containers should be avoided because the root system may be "root bound." This means all the available space in the container has been filled with roots to the point that the tap root is growing along the edge of the container in a circular fashion. Root bound conditions leads to decline and eventual death of the tree.

Newton Thanks for your posting. After reading it I can see some of some of the lacks in my growing conditions.

This past winter the humidity in the house had gotten rather low before I turned on the auto humidifier. I also like it to be in 80's.

As far as containers I feel you may be correct also. After looking at the coffee plant I feel it should be placed in a larger container.

I was wondering what your preferred fertilizer is in growing coffee is ? I have read citrus fertilizer is good.

I understand they perfer an acid type soil well draining. feel free to correct me iin this posting..
