| I grew a few papayas from seed last winter/spring. I wasn't sure they were going to germinate but after almost 2 months they finally did. I got them to grow to about 6 inches tall and they died after a transplant. Papayas are another plant that does not like its roots messed with. |

| Although papayas can be held over the winter, in warmer areas, or in greenhouse culture, it is generally not recommended. To obtain the greatest quantity and highest quality of fruit, it is best to discard the plant after the initial production is completed. Papayas held over to the next season never produce at the same level, grafted or not. By planting successive planting a few months apart, you are ensured of always having a constant supply of fruit. Because papayas produce a fruit crop the very same year as the seed is planted, why would one want to go to all the trouble of grafting? Last edited by gardner_dragon : 01-24-2007 at 04:22 PM. |
