| Myself I just wash the fresh seeds with plain tap water, wrap the seeds in plan paper toweling and place them in a zip lock bag. I place the bag on top of the computer and let them germinate, than plant them in a seed starter soil within a styforom cups. Keeping it simple is easy. |

| To each their own..and if you've found a method that works for you, good for you. I know some folks insist that it speeds citrus germination to knick or remove the seed coat. I'm with Dale, keep it simple. I'd bet that a lot of 'good' seed is ruined while removing or trying to remove the seed coat. I have only done it a couple of times on citrus seeds. I normally get germination on citrus in 10-14 days (without removing the seed coat). Changing gears and speaking of special treatments for/on 'hard coated seeds'...that's a totally different story that involves several different methods... | For some reason I've had good luck sprouting citrus seeds by spitting out the seeds from a fruit I'm eating and then pushing them into the dirt in one of the African violet pots. When they sprout and get an several inches tall, I take them out and repot the violet. This method wasn't from planning but from eating oranges and grapefruit on the porch where the African violets are. Seems to work, though! |
