Yesterday i ran into a friend that had me graft a fairly large understock of unknown variety. The graft grew quite well however was dead this spring. after checking the understock evidently suffered freeze damage so the graft was dead. The moral of this story is make sure the understock is cold tolerant. The understock is just as important as the scion that is grafted to the understock
