I'm having a heck of a time with growing this Banana. It's about a year old and still the same size about 4 inches tall. Today I repotted it in a 5 inch container using MiracleGro potting mix. the roots look very good white in color an no die back. In the past I feed it with 15-5-30 with minors water soluble 1/4 tsp per gallon of water. This is my 2nd try at growing this type the first got root rot and died. I backed of the water on this one. Whats up can you help.

CitrusMan, I am having the same troubles with this one as you are. It seems, like you said, to not grow. I know many people that have had success with this nanner so it is conditions...right now, mine is in shade inside the house in a semi-moist pot. It will pick up speed once placed outside. Where are you located? Good Luck ![]()

The only way I have gotten any of my nanners to grow was with a dose of bone meal fert and hot water. The water was around 120°F. I don't know what the hot water actually did unless it made the bone meal more availiable. I also use epsom salt to kick start it in the spring. One word of caution: Do not use the fert and the epsom salt in the same week. Andi

I've been growing the cavendish super dwarf for about 2-3 years. A friend of mine in California that grows all types of banana did not recommend this, even if grown in the ground. Even if it fruits the bananas it made was starchy and not good for eating. He recommended Raja Puri Banana, it bears within a year under good conditions and very good quality. I have it in a 10 gallon currently, I'm about to re pot it.

I repotted the super dwarf in Miracle grow potting soil, and backed off on the watering like citrus in containers. It is doing much better buy greening up and producing pups. Last edited by admin : 04-04-2008 at 08:38 PM.

| Good job Dale...Bananas in pots like a certain level of root-boundness, but it is always good to give them more room. They will grow faster if watered more often in summer and spring, and to hold off in winter is good. Congrats on the pups! __________________ Taylor[Only Registered Users Can See Links. | taylor, You made a good point. I did back off on the water this winter, In the past I lost Super Dwarf from root rot due to over watering in the winter. I very seldom give up on testing new trees or plants. You posting Was GREAT. |
